In addition to being a musician, Kurt Cobain was also a gifted artist. His grandfather, Leland Cobain, who has an extensive collection of Kurt’s artwork, has been asked to donate some of Kurt’s paintings to a Kurt Cobain exhibit at the Aberdeen Museum of History. Of Kurt’s artwork, his high school art teacher, Bob Hunter, said, “By the time he left here, I saw him as the type who could have been a professional painter in New York, L.A. or Chicago.” Leland’s collection includes paintings Kurt did in Olympia in the late eighties of fetuses, dwarfish creatures and an alien-like skeletal figure. Bob Hunter sums up Kurt’s art and music by saying, “The art he had within him did as much for the music as the music did for the art.”
