Come As You Are is an excellent read and the only official authorized biography of Nirvana.
The author, Michael Azerrad, was one of the few journalists that Kurt actually liked, and wrote this book based on numerous recorded interviews with Cobain. (These interview tapes were the basis for the Kurt Cobain About A Son DVD, released in February 2008)
Consequently, the book is an honest portrait of the band, spanning their humble beginnings up to the release of In Utero.
Because this book was originally published before Cobain’s death, Come As You Are has a refreshing focus on the life of the band rather than its’ demise.
The book features some interesting personal pictures, original lyric sheets, drawings by Cobain as well as various concert posters.
Because this book is authorized and based on direct interviews with the band, Come As You Are is easily the most accurate Nirvana biography available. Well written and highly recommended.
